What to do after my bachelor: second idea

Ok,

I promised to write another post right after the one about our UGC Clips. I screwed up! I really had heaps of stuff to do. There was this stupid transcript I had to write after I interviewed an entrepreneur, and that took some while (can you believe that 1h 10min interview takes about 6 to 7 hours of transcribing?! And It's not that I'm a slow writer...)

Nevertheless, I screwed it up I know!

Today will again be about my future plans (which is actually the topic of this blog, in case u missed it). But I'll also include a video again, which this time is not funny but very interesting. Again, if you just wanna see the video, just scroll down, otherwise thanks for staying with me and my thoughts.

So after I described my desire to emigrate to New Zealand after my bachelor degree in an older post, I'll write a more likely option this time:

A master's degree

(I know, I know, not very spectacular and fascinating but still a valid option)

Earlier during my time in St Gallen, I really thought that this was the path I would take after my bachelor in SG, but nowadays it doesn't seem like a necessity anymore. Still, I guess this will be the path I'll choose after St. Gallen, although it won't be in St. Gallen.

Don't get me wrong, the University of St Gallen has really great master programs and the reputation of the University comes from the masters degrees, but I think it's time to move on and live somewhere else.

St. Gallen is not a great city to live in. It's alright, but I love metropolitan life. St. Gallen is more a big village than a small city and life here is quite boring. Additionally I want to move on because I always loved it to experience living in different parts of the world. I'm a type of guy how can't stay at one place too long. I have to go somewhere else to stay happy and exited. So this is only a logical consequence.

Some of you might ask why to pursue a master's degree at all?! Well there is a simple explanation: I really don't feel ready to start my professional carrier now. I feel like I'm still to young to do that. So a master's degree might not prepare me a lot better for my professional life, but at least I'll gain something even more important: experience and adventures.

In order to make this Post a bit more multimedia-based (and less boring) I want to give you some examples where I might land and what are my dream destinations for a master's could be:

University of New South Wales

After doing some research I really fell in love with this place. It fulfills a couple of requirements that I have. First of all, the city where it's situated is great (Sydney!!!!). Second: the weather is mostly warm (perhaps a bit to warm), third it is in an english speaking country and forth it has interesting and special area oriented masters (in contrast to a non specific area oriented master like a MBA). I would pursue to complete a Master of Commerce with a specialization in Marketing there. This might sound very trivial, but if you have a look at many Universities in the english-speaking world, most of them just offer an MBA which would not make a lot of sense because it would most certainly overlap with a lot I learned during my bachelor (of business administration). The only negative about UNSW is that it is not very renown around the world, but I don't see that as a very important criteria.

After you got a little example of what my criterias regarding the University and the master's program are, I just want to give you a list of other destinations I consider. Some of them might not fulfil all criterias, but I think you always have to make some trade-off. Perhaps some of them might also be interesting for some of my dear readers ;-)

Many of you might want to mention or even recommend other universities or another master's program. I just wanted to list a few examples. This list is fare from complete. I'm still researching and evaluating (e.g. next on my list are Universities in Scotland and South Africa). The idea behind this blog post was on one hand just to give the people who are interested (I hope there are at least a few....) an idea where I might be heading, and on the other hand to fuel myself to start researching and dealing with my future. I think both worked out quite good!

After you now know my latest considerations what to do in the future, I'll now come back to the video I promised earlier.

As some of you know, we have the famous St.Gallen Symposium every year here at the HSG.

I have to admit that I didn't follow the Symposium the last couple of years but my interest was fairly increased this your due to the fact that a friend of mine is in the organizing committee.

I think this event is a good thing and although not a lot of students can attend you can get a bit of the flair of this great event via their youtube channel. In order to endorse this event I've put the video about the topic of the symposium and a video from a panal discussion of very interesting personalities at the end of this post. There are heaps of other videos at their youtube channel, so check it out!!!!

What i did in the meantime...

Dear All,

It's been a while since my last post. There is an explanation though. I really had a lot to do. So this blogpost is about what I did (naturally not everything, because I don't think you're interested in what I cooked and how I did cook it....I come to think that I could post some recipes, but than this blog won't be more than a virtual recipe collection, which was not my initial intention....well, where was I?), mainly about a very fascinating class which I had last week. Additionally there will be a new blogpost tomorrow about the actual topic of this Blog, my future (it still feels weird to write that).

But first things first. As the regular reader (and I'm pretty sure there are heaps of them out there) might already have recognized this blog is now in English. Why did i change the Language? Well many people might think this is a revolution (I know a bit of a big word for this small small Blog), but I see it more like a good old evolution based on evaluation. I have some readers which don't speak german, and I want this blog to be readable for these people, which are mostly friends I met in NZ. So from now on, only in english!!! (most of the German (pronunciation"tshoermen") readers understand english anyway, so no worries).

So here my real Blog post starts (YEAH!!!)

Last week i really had one of the best course I ever had at University. The title might not sound very attracting: "Artistic Practices: From Vision to Visualization" but it really rocked. The main idea behind that class was to produce user generated ads (this whole ugc things is really creating a Buzz right no when it comes to Marketing) and while doing that, learn how to approach a vision and realize it. If you just want to see the clips and don't read my lame report, just scroll down, there is a link and an example. The Blogpost will give a "brief" summary of the week so if you're interested how we produced the clips, just stay with me.

Summary of the week

Day 1

The week started on monday with a brief intoduction of our 2 lectures, one of whom is a german producer, named Jörg Schulze. He's really a nice fellow and quite a contrast compared to most of the very (how do i put this...)"formal" professors which I'm used to here in Sankt Gallen. At the End of the day our main goal was to create a pitch of our idea for the advert, which was supposed to solicit "MLP Komfortkonto", a bank account which is free for students. Not very sexy ay?! The idea was that we'll have 11 pitched the next morning and elect the 4 best, which then will be realized during the week.

Day 2

Long story short, mine was picked up (WOHOOOO!!!!). The idea was, that the main character finds heaps of bills from the bank in his mailbox. Immediately a football hits him in the groin and the message "Painless Banking with the MLP KomfortKonto" is faded in. Everyone will see later, that the story was changed during the week, but that was the basis for the clip. The rest of day 2 was to specify the story, which was quite some work, because the lecturers did, what they had to do and picked our ideas apart. But at the end of day 2 we had our story (more or less). Which was now that Kai, as we called our character from now on, came home from his long journey from Vietnam and finds heaps of bills of his bank. He then will get a football in his groin, or (as our lecturers suggested) 2 slaps in his face.

Day 3

Day three was kind-of frustrating, because we didn't really get on with the clip, only had to perpare for the shooting day (day 4), which included getting prop, but mainly to specify even more and create shotlists (basically a rundown of the shots we want to shoot (import is the point of view and the camera movement), visualized with some self made paintings) which we would use as our guideline the for the next day. This was very exhausting but our producers/lecturers told us this would be important to realize the clip and not have a chaotic day of shooting. Here the idea with the slaps became more and more attrrative because we could have a shot on Kai's face while he show emotions which is appealing to transport the emotions better towards the viewer.

Day 4

This was the big day. The shooting day. Which was actually not too bad. we had everything planned out pretty good, and at the end of the day, we had all shots we needed. We shot 2 Scenes for the end, the football version and the one with the slaps. Throwing the football into someone's groin (he had a jockstrap, but it hurt) and slap him in his face. Thanks to Tobi (our actor) again, he did a great job.

Day 5

This was the longest day. Basically just editing and cutting, but that's quite some work and we had our hands full. In the end we just cut the version with the slaps, because it better carried the idea. The football in the groin will just be in the outtakes. Although it might not seem as much work when you see the final clip, we had to do heaps of stuff including re-recording the audio and the voice-over, finding music and color-editing the clip so it has a better quality (you might not see it, but the footage was way to dark and the final version is ok now).

Day 6

This day was just the feedback and presentation day. I think all 5 clips are great, but convince yourself, after millions of unimportant words and a pretty boring post (thanks for sticking with me), here is the result of my group:

Endlich was zum Thema

So liebe Leser,

nachdem es jetzt über eine Woche still um mich war möchte ich mit dem Post heute endlich mal auf das Thema kommen, welches eigentlich das Hauptthema dieses Blogs sein soll, meine Zukunft. (Wenn ich das so schreibe merke ich erst, was für ein doch nicht ganz unwichtiges Thema das ist...).

(Falls jemand nicht das ganze Vorgeplänkel lesen will, bitte gibt bei euch in der Suchfunktion "Spannung" ein und Ihr kommt zum, zugegebenermaßen nicht sehr spannenden, aber spannenderen Teil dieses Posts; danke an Jonas von dem ich diese Idee einfach mal kopiert habe um auch meine Leser bei laune zu halten)
Dieses schwerwiegende Thema will ich versuchen systematisch anzugehen und einzelne Möglichkeiten vorzustellen, die mir so in den letzten Monaten in den Kopf gekommen sind. Sicherlich gibt es darauf 2 Fragen die ihr euch stellt:
1. Was sollen wir eigentlich damit, des interessiert doch eh keinen und wird total langweilig?
2. Warum schreibst du dass denn überhaupt?!

dazu 2 kurze antworten:

1. Keine Plan was ihr damit anfangen sollt, und ich bin mir sicher dass dieser Blog sowieso nicht so viele Leser hat, deswegen könnte es passieren dass ich euch stellenweise sehr langweile... kalkuliertes Risiko! (ich schätze dann werden sich meine riesigen Einnahmen aus Werbung auf dem Blog etwas verringern, aber das kann ich verschmerzen... watch out Bill, ich arbeite schon an meiner ersten Milliarde) (und ich merke schon wie ich bei so langen Sätzen und Erklärungen langweile, und diese Erklärung über die Erklärungen nicht gerade spannungsfördernd ist, deswegen schnell weiter)

2. Ich schreibe das als Selbstreflexion. Da ich selber noch nicht weiß was ich eigentlich will versuche ich hier mir hier meine Gedanken zu machen und irgendwie vielleicht endlich mal zu wissen was ich wirklich will...

Zudem will ich noch dazusagen, dass ich teilweise recht abwegige Optionen präsentieren werde. Trotzdem wird es sicherlich hier nicht zu lesen geben dass ich mir Vorstellen als Wide Receiver in der NFL mein Geld zu spielen (Talent und Können hätte ich natürlich ^^)

Nun will ich aber endlich ohne weite Umschweife zum Thema kommen und meine erste "Idee" vorstellen (Spannung; wurde hier eingesetzte um eine einfacherer Navigation zu ermöglichen, siehe oben):

AUSWANDERN

Ja viele von euch werden sagen, der ist doch verrückt und das sind eh nur Hirngespinste...stimmt, aber nichts desto trotz eine Option die ich sehr wohl abwäge.

Jeder der mich näher kennt, weiß wahrscheinlich schon wohin ich Auswandern wollen würde (mann dieser Futur-Konjunktiv klingt echt immer komisch) für alle anderen, hier ein paar Bilder (aus meiner eigenen Sammlung):

Wer es bis jetzt noch nicht erraten hat, die Bilder sind aus Neuseeland! Mein absolutes Traumziel seit ich dort letztes Jahr ein Semester im Austausch war!

Viele werden sich jetzt wahrscheinlich fragen warum ich eigentlich auswandern will?

Well, Neuseeland ist der Grund! Jeder der schon einmal in diesem einzigartigen Land gewesen ist wird nachvollziehen können warum manche es als "closest thing to heaven on earth" beschreiben. (btw alle filme auf den 100% pure New Zealand Channel sind wirklich sehenswert)

Ich könnte noch tagelang schwärmen wie großartig Neuseeland ist, aber es sind leere Worte die ich sagen könnte, da man selber dort gewesen sind muss um es nachvollziehen zu können. Wie es im Film gesagt wird: "there is something you can feel, a special energy"! Das sagt glaube ich ganz gut meine Gefühle aus....

Allein schon während ich diese Zeilen schreibe packt mich das Fernweh schon wieder und ich würde am liebsten in den nächsten Flieger steigen...

Ebenfalls ein Punkt warum ich weg will sind die Leute hier in Europa. Es ist mir bevor ich aus NZ zurückkam nicht aufgefallen, aber die meisten Leute sind einfach unfreundlich! Das habe ich dieses Jahr in Deutschland, der Schweiz und in England schon festgestellt. Warum eigentlich? Warum müssen wir (ich schließe mich da mit ein, weil das nach einer Weile leider echt ansteckend ist) so sein? Warum können wir nicht einfach mal positiv gegenüber anderen Menschen sein, Freundlich und aufgeschlossen. Stattdessen muss an beim Einkaufen 10 mal jemanden bitten bis dieser einem hilft.

Viele werden jetzt sagen ich übertreibe und damit haben sie evtl. auch recht, nichts desto trotz (schreibt man das so???) ist die Grundtendenz einfach unfreundlich und damit total gegenteilig zu allem was ich in Nz erlebt habe. Genau das hat mich dort unten zu einem besseren Menschen werden lassen und ich habe gemerkt wie mich kleine Dinge glücklich machen, wie es mir hier nie passiert ist. Deswegen will ich zurück! Es ist sicherlich schwer zu erklären, man muss es nun einmal fühlen.

Was ich genau machen will da unten?! Keine Ahnung! Ich weiß die ganze Auswanderungsidee ist sehr optimistisch und ungeplant, aber das soll sie auch sein, weil ich glaube wenn ich das ganze durchplane ich mehr und mehr von dieser Idee loskommen, weil es Schwachsinn ist. Aber wenn ich nix plane wird dieser Traum nie in Erfüllung gehen...

Das ist mein Dilemma, wie ich es überwinde? Die Zukunft wird es zeigen...

Mit diesen Gedanken möchte ich euch nun in den Feierabend entlassen ich zieh mir jetzt meine Jandals an und genieße noch etwas meine Erinnerungen an Neuseeland.

2ter Post

Bevor ich in den nächsten Tagen über das eigentlich Thema dieses Blog schreiben werde, will ich eine kleine Auswahl an anderen Blogs würdigen die ich gerne besuche und ziemlich cool finde, bzw. die von Freunden von mir geführt werden.

Als erstes der PhotoBlog learn something every day

Dieser Blog ist voll gestopft mit unnützem, und deshalb großartigem, Wissen. Jeden Tag gibt es einen neuen Fakt den die Welt nicht verpassen sollte und der in jedes gut gebildete Gehirn gehört. Schließlich ist es von enormer Wichtigkeit zu wissen ob man Sophophobia hat und deswegen an der HSG nix lernt....

Der zweite blog ist der meines Freundes BrutusD.

Der Blog ist ein Tumbleblog . Hier werden seine Tweets und andere Geschehnisse aus seinem Leben veröffentlicht ohne dass er langschweifende langweilige Texte über die Zukunft verfasst.

Man muss noch sagen dass er gerade dabei ist Schauspieler zu werden und dass er deswegen oftmals etwas, naja, ANDERS, ist.

Der Dritte und flür heute letzte Blog den ich noch empfehlen kann und der zu meinen regelmäßig-gelesenen (schreibt man das in ein Wort, bzw. gibt es den Ausdruck überhaupt) gehört ist der Blog eines Dänen den ich in Neuseeland kennen gelernt habe, Iqon.

Interessant sind hier vor allem seine großartigen Fotos aus Neuseeland (und den USA) und seine sehr sarkastische Art zu schreiben. Ebenfalls zu empfehlen ist der Blog für alle die Ihre Dänisch Kenntnisse erweitern wollen, da man Ihn auch auf Dänisch lesen kann. Bei mir reicht es bisher nur für "Halløjsa! Skal vi bolle?"reicht. Was auch eigentlich das einzig wichtige ist was man sagen könne muss...

So dass wars erstmal für Heute,

mehr zum eigentlichen Thema des Blogs (obwohl ich mich nicht zu sehr dran halten will, es gibt ja soveile tolle Sachen im Web, die man aus langeweile findet...) in kürze

Again, a Blog by Chris?!

Liebe Leute,

heute starte ich meine inzwischen 3ten Versuch einen Blog aufzusetzen. Hintergrund ist diesmal, dass ich den Blog im Zuge eines Kurses an der HSG mache der sich mit dem Thema Teamarbeit 2.0 beschäftigt.

Meien Blog soll meine Gedanken bezüglich meiner Zukunft nach dem Bachelor an der HSG widerspiegeln. Was euch erwartet? Das sweiß ich selber nicht! Ich fühle mich gerade wie ein "Work in Progress" und dass Ziel ist, dass Ziel zu finden welches ich nach dem B.A. ansteuern werde.

Die nächsten Tage über werde ich meine ersten Ideen die ich schon habe veröffentlichen und dann seid ihr auf dem seben stand wie ich.

Vorschläge wrede immer gern gehört und sind ein toller input.
